A 5- star rating indicates that a county is among the top-performing counties in measures of Education, Health, or Child Welfare and Economic Well-Being, while a 1-star rating indicates that a county is among the lowest-performing within these categories.

This tool relies in part on survey data from the United States Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research’s California Health Interview Survey, and WestEd’s California Healthy Kids Survey.
